I
Wish I May
Welcome to the merry month of May! Welcome to the month where everything seems
to blossom, from the figurative blossoming of love and sensuality to the more
literal blossoming of flowers (bringing misery, unfortunately to those with
hay fever...) and their kin. The days seem a bit brighter, people (except for
those poor allergy sufferers) seem happier, and the days seem longer (well,
maybe that’s because they actually are).
It’s the thought of love and sensuality that induced us to
bring you the art of Dorothy Iannone, who, even
as she moves into her seventh decade of life, continues to celebrate
love, passion, and sensuality.
We also include for your pleasure an interview with the
Alvik, a look at the phenomenon that is MySpace,
and our usual collection of thoughts and reviews of art, restaurants,
books, music, and anything else that comprises the Prague scene
today.
May also marks the moment that the dance scene really
starts to get hot, and this year is no exception; mark your already
busy calender for the Chemical Club party, Paul van Dyk’s arrival,
the Elektra party and all the other great events you’ll find
listed herein.
Finally, just to get you out of your apartment and out and about,
we’ve included a coupon for a 20 CZK discount to the Museum
of Communism, where you can commune with Lenin and study
the sublime beauty of Josef Stalin and Leonid Breznev. Speaking of
sublime beauty, the Czech Police have yet again shown the beauty
of their thought and method with the severe beating one of their
members visited upon Green Party candidate Katerina Jacques at a
recent anti-fascist protest. While ignoring the provocations of the
fascists, the police were quick to apply old-time tried and true
techniques on Jacques, yet again demonstrating their inability to
understand their purpose at public events. What the government will
do about this attack remains to be seen, but don’t hold your
breath. So, enjoy the long days of summer, find that special someone(s)
to frolic with around the maypole, and stay away from the police!
